How to Tell If Your Window Seals Have Failed

Although window seals are made to resist harsh elements, they also have limits. Any window installation company would note that if your property experiences constant rain exposure, water can seep behind the seals of your windows and cause them to lift. Here are signs you can look out for to help you determine whether your window seals have failed.

How to Tell If Your Window Seals Have Failed

Signs of Window Seal Failure

1. Condensation — Condensation, in most cases, is an indication that your windows are energy-efficient and they’re effectively keeping the heat where it should be. However, if you notice that condensation or foggy patches have become excessive or persistent, you might want to call a professional.

To check if there’s a possible issue with your window seal, you first need to clean your window thoroughly. This is to ensure that you’re not dealing with condensation or streaks on the outside of the glass. Once you’re done cleaning the window inside and out, check for foggy patches again. If you still see condensation, the moisture is likely in between the panes of glass, meaning the window seal is broken.

Moreover, condensation can cause mold to grow, further damaging the window seal. It can make the seal ineffective, especially if it’s made of a rubber material. Make sure this toxic discoloration is immediately removed with an alcohol-based cleaner or vinegar to kill the spores.

2. Glass Distortion — Residential window services experts say windows filled with argon or krypton gas may bow when the gas begins to leak. When this occurs, It’s ideal to have newly installed windows soon.

Try standing outside, away from your window. Check if your reflection in the affected window is the same as in the other windows in your home. If it seems more warped in one window, you’re likely dealing with a broken window seal.
