What Makes a Good Window Replacement Contract?

When signing a contract for your replacement window installation, being extra cautious is paramount. Remember that there are various things you should understand and consider first before you come into an agreement. It is highly critical that you review each factor and pointer carefully. Here are some of them:

  1. Bill of Materials. This section is considered one of the most important details a customer must be aware of. It goes into detail on what will be used to complete the installation. When reviewing your contract, make sure that everything in this section matches what you have discussed with your hired contractor.

  2. License and Insurance Information. The contract should list the contractor’s license number, as well as a copy of their insurance certificate. Keep in mind that the latter should clearly state that they have general liability insurance and workers’ compensation, which provides coverage for accidental property damage and worksite injuries, respectively.

  3. Payment Terms and Schedule. Whether or not you’re getting a double-hung window repair, never forget that reliable contractors will never ask you for the full payment upfront.  You’ll have to make a down payment upon signing the contract, then installments after milestones like material delivery. The final payment can only be settled after the installation is satisfactorily completed.

  4. Project Overview. This section summarizes the work required for window replacement and can be alternatively described as the scope of the project. Here, you’re likely to see the number and other details of the windows that are yet to be installed, an estimated timeline of the project, and a description of how the old windows will be disposed of.
