How to Spring-Clean Your Windows the Right Way

Taking the time to clean your windows is essential for a healthy home. This spring cleaning task involves sanitizing, dusting, and polishing the glass panes. Dirty windows, after all, impact visibility both inside and outside of your home. Not only that, but they can detract from the overall curb appeal of your property. Double-hung window repair expert Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City shares a few steps that will help restore your windows to their original beauty and make your home more inviting.

Gather Supplies

You need the right supplies to clean your windows thoroughly. Window cleaning supplies include a window cleaner, a few microfiber cloths, a vacuum, and a ladder. You can find all of these items in your local hardware store.

Prepare the Room

Whether you have a double-hung or picture window installation, the first step in cleaning your windows is to prepare the room that houses them. This includes removing furniture, blinds, and other items so that you have enough space to work around the window. After that, use the vacuum on the floor to clear any dust or dirt particles from around it.

Clean the Windows

Spray window cleaner on the glass and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. This removes fingerprints, smudges, and other contaminants from the window surface. Also, use a ladder for windows located at higher spots in your home.

Clean the Window Sills

The window sills, which are the slotted-out parts where the windows are raised and lowered, may have dirt, dust and debris lodged in them. Use your vacuum nozzle to suck up all that debris inside the sill. You can then wipe them down with a damp cloth for extra cleanliness.

After following these steps, your windows should look as good as new! Cleaning them regularly will keep them looking nice and ensure you have the best visibility from inside and outside of your home. However, if your windows can no longer be maintained like they used to because of extensive wear and tear, a replacement window installation may be due. For that, you can get in touch with Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City. Call (605) 341-7831 for a free consultation today! You can also message us here and we’ll get back to you.
