How to Keep Your Home Cool with New Windows

Most people think about the AC when it comes to keeping your home or a room cool during the summer. Your windows are just as important of a consideration. They are a prime place for heat to get into your home. When sunlight shines through your windows it also transfers heat into your home and affects the indoor temperature.

Want to save money on your energy bills this summer? Air conditioning is not your only option. Expert in replacement window installation, Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City shares how new windows can help keep your home cool this summer.

1. Gas-Filled Windows

Energy-efficient windows typically utilize a gas that is placed between panes of glass. The most popular gas is Argon. The gas acts as an additional insulation barrier to slow down the transfer of heat and cold through the panes of glass.

2. Low-E Windows

Low-E, which is short for low emissivity, is one of the best solutions for reducing heat transfer through a window. It’s a colorless and odorless application that’s thinner than human hair. It’s applied to the glass during manufacturing and is responsible for helping the window to keep cooling costs low during the summer.

3. Right SHGC Rating

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, otherwise known as SHGC, is the amount of solar radiation that makes its way through a window’s glass unit. This is measured with SHGC ratings between zero and one. The lower the number of the rating, the less solar heat the window transmits.

4. Frame Materials

Incorporating certain materials within the picture window installation frame will boost your room’s insulation capabilities and allow for a consistent temperature throughout your home. Different materials have unique properties that affect a window’s insulation properties.

5. Low-Conductance Spacers

The use of low-conductivity spacers and seals between the panes of glass keep the gas in place and further reduce the transfer of heat and cold through the window.

Renewal by Andersen of Rapid City windows comes with energy-efficient features to reduce indoor energy consumption, including our High Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass, which is 70% more energy-efficient in summer and 49% more efficient in winter than standard dual-pane glass.
