Poor Window Maintenance Habits You Should Stop

As a homeowner, it’s your responsibility to take care of and maintain your property. Your windows may seem easy to maintain but there can be bad habits that may compromise them. You should properly maintain your windows as they play an important role in your home’s insulation and energy efficiency. To help you, French doors installation professional Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City lists poor window maintenance habits that you should stop doing.

You should learn how to properly maintain your windows. The following are some of the bad maintenance habits that you should unlearn:

1. It’s best for your windows to not leave their covering down. Especially during the winter when it’s easier for moisture to build up. Leaving your window covering down for a long time can trap moisture inside your windows because of the cold. The condensation blocks the airflow and may result in moisture and water damage.

2. Same with your sliding patio door, you should not use a strong power washer to clean your windows. You should also avoid using a chemical window cleaner that has muriatic acid. This type and method of cleaning can be very damaging to your windows. Stick with homemade cleaning solutions and make sure to be gentle when washing your windows.

3. If your windows are energy-efficient equipped with Low-E coating on their glasses, you should avoid topping it off with a storm window. Low-E coated windows easily reflect heat from the sun, so a storm window on top of a Low-E coating window can easily trap the heat. This contradicts the purpose of the Low-E glass and can cause damage to your window.
