Tips to Contain the Mess During Window Replacement

Replacing your windows can boost your house’s curb appeal and energy efficiency. With new home replacement windows, your living space will become more comfortable. They can make rooms easier to heat and cool, helping you save on energy bills.

Like other home improvements, window replacement can involve a lot of dust. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to contain the mess. Read on to find out what they are.

Prepare Your Home

Before your contractor arrives, be sure your windows are without curtains, drapes or blinds. Remove furniture and decor in the room where the new windows will be installed. The walls can vibrate during the window replacement, so take down artwork and picture frames. You can cover heavy items and your floors with plastic sheets or drop cloths to protect them from dust and debris.

Close All Your Doors

Whether it’s double-hung or casement window replacement, you should close all doors in the house before the actual work begins. It goes a long way in preventing dust and debris from traveling to other rooms. The workers will also find it easier to tidy up after construction if the mess is in one place.

Seal the Site

It may be necessary to seal the site if you are replacing bigger window styles like picture, bow or bay windows. Your contractor might hang plastic sheets around the area to keep dust from escaping. It’s also a good idea to close vents during your project. If you need to use your AC, you can tape the vents on the site.
