A Step-By-Step Guide to Getting Spotlessly Clean Windows

Window cleaning isn’t a task that a homeowner should take lightly, especially if you live in a multi-story home with a lot of windows. While it may seem as simple as wiping it down with water and cloth, there’s actually a margin of error that can cause streaks to your window instead of actually cleaning it. Window cleaning may sound like a simple task but there’s actually a proper method to making your windows spotless.

In this post, Renewal by Andersen® – Rapid City, a leading provider of awning windows installation services, gives you a step-by-step guide to spotlessly cleaning your windows.

Make Your Solution

When it comes to the solution you’ll be cleaning your windows with, avoid using prepackaged bottle cleansers as much as possible. Instead, make your own solution with a few household items. Depending on how dirty your windows are, the solution you’ll be making will vary. If your windows are exceptionally grimy, then a mixture of warm water, dish soap and ammonia or vinegar should easily cut through the grease and grime. Otherwise, warm water and dish soap will do.

Wipe It Down

Once you have your solution, you can now start wiping your windows down. Wash the edges of the window glass, and rinse it before washing the rest of the window. Afterwards, use a squeegee to wipe away any excess solution. If your window happens to have a unique shape, home replacement windows experts such as Renewal by Andersen – Rapid City recommends that you find a custom-sized squeegee.

Dry Your Windows

After squeegeeing your windows, it’s possible for streaks to remain. To prevent that, it’s best that you dry your window with a dry cloth as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can also use newspapers. However, should you choose to do so, be careful in what you pick since some newspapers use darker ink that can contribute to the streaking.

Call a Professional

On the other hand, if cleaning your windows seem too big a task for you, you can always call a professional. This is especially recommended if you lack the free time to do it yourself or if you have hard to reach windows. Keep yourself safe by hiring an insured professional to do the job in your stead.
