Popular Home Styles in Our Area and Their Matching Windows

Different architectural designs require different kinds of windows, which should be taken into account when planning your window replacement project. Today, Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City will discuss a few popular home styles and explains which windows will look best on each one:

Ranch

Ranch style homes are low and horizontal and usually have an open layout for their interior. The home is usually built out of local materials and has an L-shaped floor plan surrounding a patio. Use windows that have large panes of glass for this kind of home. Typical window styles for Ranch style homes include casement and picture windows.

American Farmhouse

The American Farmhouse style home first emerged in the Midwest during the mid-1800s and it typically features simple detailing, open floor plans and one-and-a-half to two stories. The traditional American Farmhouse style window is a tall double-hung window that has a simple grille that divides the window glass into four panes. Possible window colors for this home style include white, canvas, sandtone and Terratone®.

Craftsman Bungalow

The Craftsman Bungalow home has shallow pitched roofs with deep overhangs and expressive structural components such as rafters, brackets, and columns. Window types for this style include double-hung windows and casement windows that are vertical in proportion. The grilles for these windows are never horizontal. Good window colors for this home style include warm browns, greens, yellows and burgundies.
